August 2025 Forecast: Four Retrogrades and a New Moon Roar

New Moon in Leo

August does not ease you in gently. It shakes loose what no longer serves you.

August Retrogrades New Moon Leo

August is not easing us in gently. Four planets are in retrograde this month — Mercury, Saturn, Neptune and Chiron are all spinning backward, creating a perfect storm of emotional intensity, spiritual friction and mental fog. This is not a time for rushing ahead. It is a time to pause, reflect and let what needs to surface finally rise.

If you feel tired, irritable, or like you are hitting a wall over and over this month, you are not alone and you are not broken. August has a particular quality to it that every sensitive, self-aware person will feel: a kind of pressure from within and from without simultaneously. The retrogrades are doing their work. They are not punishing you. They are performing the necessary task of shaking loose what no longer belongs in your life — and that kind of shaking can be uncomfortable even when it is exactly what is needed.

Retrograde periods, in astrological understanding, are times when the planetary energy that normally moves outward into your life turns inward. Instead of building new things, you are being invited to review, revise and release. Instead of adding more, you are being asked to excavate. What was built on shaky foundations starts to wobble. What was suppressed starts pushing toward the surface. This month is less about action and more about awareness.

August will shake loose the things that no longer serve you and expose what you need to heal. The more honest you are with yourself, the more clarity you will gain by the end of the month.

Mercury Retrograde

Virgo / Leo

Communication goes sideways. Plans unravel unexpectedly. Old conversations resurface, old flames circle back, and the words you thought were clear arrive garbled. This is not the time for new agreements — it is the time to review what you have already said and what remains unsaid.

Direct: August 11

Saturn Retrograde

Pisces

Saturn retrograde focuses your attention on foundations — structures, commitments, responsibilities and boundaries. It asks one quiet but insistent question: is this solid, or is it just familiar? Anything built on avoidance or obligation without genuine commitment will feel its pressure now.

Direct: Late November

Neptune Retrograde

Aries

Neptune blurs and dissolves. In retrograde it pulls the veil back, and what has been hidden behind wishful thinking or spiritual bypassing begins to clarify. The temptation to escape will be strong. The invitation is to see clearly instead — especially about your own story and the stories you have told yourself about who you are.

Direct: December 10

Chiron Retrograde

Aries

Chiron is the wounded healer — and in retrograde it brings up old wounds around identity, worth and self-belief with particular intensity. This is not surface-level healing. It asks you to sit with what hurts, to find it at its root rather than its symptom, and to finally let it move through rather than keeping it buried beneath activity.

Direct: December 29

Neptune and Chiron retrograding together in Aries creates something quite specific and quite deep: an invitation to excavate your personal narrative. Aries rules the self — identity, initiative, courage, the first-person singular. When both Neptune and Chiron are retrograde in this sign, the questions they raise are intimate and unavoidable: Who do you believe yourself to be? Are those beliefs true, or are they inherited? Are they clear, or are they obscured by old pain?

Neptune's retrograde movement strips away illusion with a gentleness that can be deceiving. You may not feel the clarity arriving — you may simply notice that certain stories about yourself no longer quite hold. The romantic narrative, the victim narrative, the one about what you are and are not capable of. Neptune retrograde does not force these stories to collapse loudly. It lets light slowly in through the cracks until the darkness that sustained them simply cannot hold.

Chiron digs deeper and more directly into the wound itself. Where Neptune softens and dissolves, Chiron identifies and illuminates. In Aries, the core wound is often about the right to exist, to take up space, to pursue what you want without apology, to trust your own instincts and desires. If these themes are surfacing for you this month — if you find yourself questioning your worth, your identity, or your right to show up fully — Chiron is doing its work. It is not asking you to suffer. It is asking you to finally acknowledge what has always been there, so that you can stop organising your life around it.

What Each Retrograde Is Really Asking

Mercury asks: Are you communicating your truth?

Not performing it, not suggesting it carefully, not waiting for permission to be direct. Are you saying what you actually mean to the people who need to hear it?

Saturn asks: Are your foundations real?

The commitments you are holding — do they reflect your genuine values, or your fear of disappointing people? The boundaries you keep — are they honestly placed?

Neptune asks: What have you been unwilling to see?

Every illusion Neptune dissolves was held in place by something. What were you protecting by not looking clearly? What becomes possible when you finally do?

Chiron asks: Where does your wound live?

Not the surface version you have learned to talk about. The original one. The one that taught you something about your worth that was never true. It is ready to be seen differently now.

August 4 · New Moon
New Moon in Leo
Your Reset Button · Leo Season · August 4

In the middle of all this retrograde intensity arrives something genuinely luminous: a New Moon in Leo. Bold, expressive, radiant, proud. This moon is not confused by the fog. It simply shines through it and asks you to do the same.

★ Confidence 🌟 Creativity ♥ Self-Expression 🔥 Passion ☀ Joy 🎓 Courage ✨ Visibility ☆ Playfulness

The New Moon in Leo on August 4 arrives as a genuine gift in the middle of retrograde season — and it is important to understand what kind of gift it is. It is not a reprieve from the inner work the retrogrades are asking for. It is a reminder of why that inner work matters. Leo rules the heart, the creative self-expression, the shining centre that every person carries within them. This New Moon is asking: what lights you up? Not what you are supposed to want. Not what seems sensible or safe. What genuinely, unmistakably, lights you up from inside?

Leo energy is bold and it does not apologise for its own brightness. In a month heavy with introspection and pressure, this New Moon arrives like a reminder that even in the middle of honest and difficult inner work, you are still allowed to choose joy. You are still allowed to create. You are still allowed to take up space, to be seen, to shine — not because you have earned it by suffering enough, but because it is your natural right as a living soul.

Use this New Moon to set intentions around confidence, self-expression and creative courage. Ask yourself what you need to release in order to shine — which fears, which smallness habits, which stories about how much space you are allowed to occupy. Leo does not shrink. It does not wait for universal approval before bringing its gift forward. This moon is not here to coddle you. It is here to remind you that even in the middle of chaos, you are still allowed to choose joy and take up space.

This moon is your reset button. Ask yourself what lights you up and what you need to release in order to shine. Then begin. Do not wait until the retrogrades are over. Shine now, from exactly where you are.

Week One (Aug 1–4): The New Moon Window

Set your Leo intentions before or on August 4. What do you want to build in terms of confidence, creativity and self-expression? Write them down, speak them aloud, or create something — a mood board, a page of journalling, a simple declaration. Plant the seed with clarity and genuine feeling.

Week Two (Aug 5–11): The Deepest Retrograde Intensity

Mercury is still retrograde through August 11 and this week the pressure from all four retrogrades tends to compound. Slow down. Review. Do not sign new contracts or launch new major ventures. Have the honest conversations you have been avoiding. This is a week for internal housekeeping of the most meaningful kind.

Week Three (Aug 11–18): Mercury Clears

Mercury stations direct on August 11. A collective exhale arrives. Communication begins to clear and plans start to hold their shape. You are still in Mercury's post-shadow until August 25, so move carefully and intentionally — but movement is now genuinely possible. Begin the fresh starts you prepared for during the retrograde.

Week Four (Aug 18–31): Integration and Forward Motion

The post-shadow winds down. Venus and Jupiter have already brought their extraordinary conjunction energy on August 12. Now the task is integration — taking everything the retrograde excavated, everything the New Moon seeded, and beginning to build consciously from what remains. The foundations are cleaner now. Build on them.

Knowing that you are in heavy retrograde season is useful. Knowing how to actually navigate it with grace and purpose is what makes the difference between a month that breaks you down and a month that builds you up from the inside. Here are six practices that genuinely help during this particular combination of energies.

I

Slow Down and Stop Forcing

The number one mistake people make during retrograde season is pushing harder against the friction. Retrogrades ask for a different kind of movement — slower, more inward, more revisionary. The harder you push against what is not flowing, the more friction you create. Ease back and let the energy show you what needs attention.

II

Sit With What Comes Up

Chiron and Neptune are surfacing emotional and psychological material that has likely been waiting for quite a while. The natural impulse is to distract or medicate or explain it away. The more courageous choice — and the one that actually works — is to sit with it. Journal. Breathe. Let it be present without immediately solving it.

III

Clarify Your Boundaries

Saturn retrograde is literally asking you to assess whether your commitments, relationships and responsibilities are genuinely aligned with your values. Use this month to identify one boundary that needs to be set more clearly, one obligation that may need renegotiating, one structural element of your life that is familiar but not actually serving you.

IV

Pause Before Speaking

Mercury retrograde scrambles communication in both directions. You may say something that does not land as intended, or receive something that is not what was meant. Build in a pause before responding to charged messages. Send fewer reactive communications. Ask for clarification before assuming you understand.

V

Release the Illusions Gently

Neptune retrograde is dissolving what was never real. This can feel like loss even when it is actually liberation. Practice allowing things to become clearer without grieving the comfort that the illusion provided. You do not need the fog. You only thought you did. Clarity is your friend, even when it is uncomfortable.

VI

Set Your New Moon Intentions Early

The Leo New Moon on August 4 is a genuine opening in an otherwise internally-focused month. Use it. Write down what you are calling in around confidence, creativity, joy and self-expression. Do not wait for conditions to be perfect. The whole point of Leo is showing up gloriously in imperfect conditions.

New Moon Intentions & Retrograde Affirmations
Speak these aloud, especially on August 4
I welcome the clarity this month is bringing, even when it arrives as discomfort.
I am allowed to shine. I am allowed to take up space. I am allowed to be seen.
I release every illusion that has been protecting me from a truth I need.
My foundations are becoming stronger and more honest with every passing day.
I sit with what hurts without running from it. Feeling it is how I heal it.
I communicate with honesty and patience. I listen as carefully as I speak.
I am worthy of the good I am calling in. I do not need to earn my own joy.
What needs to leave my life this month leaves with my genuine blessing and release.
Even in the middle of chaos, I choose creativity, passion and the courage to be myself.
My wound is not my identity. My healing is not my burden. My light is my nature.
I trust the process of August even when I cannot yet see where it is leading.
By the end of this month I will be clearer, cleaner and more genuinely myself than I was at the start.

August is intense, yes. It is asking a great deal. But it is also asking with genuine purpose. The four retrogrades together are not piling on — they are creating the conditions for a very specific kind of transformation. One that starts from the inside, clears out what has been accumulated over years of avoidance, and leaves you with something clean and honest and real to build from. That kind of clearing is rare. It is worth allowing.

And in the middle of all of it, the Leo New Moon arrives like a shaft of genuine light — warm, bold, unashamed — and asks you not to wait for everything to be resolved before you start living. Joy is not a reward for completing the healing work. It is part of the healing work itself. Leo knows this. It is what Leo has always known. And for one luminous new moon on August 4, the universe is asking you to know it too.

Let What Needs to Go, Go.

Pause. Reflect. Review. Let the retrogrades do their work. Set your New Moon intentions with courage and love. And even in the middle of all the clearing — choose joy. You are still allowed to shine.
